Why NCDC, Why Now
For decades, displacement, disinvestment, and absentee ownership have extracted wealth from East Winston and returned nothing. Storefronts change hands. Rents climb. Decisions get made across town.
NCDC is different by design: member-governed, community-owned, and built from the ground up by the people who already call this place home.
We are not launching a nonprofit. We are launching a corporation the community owns.

A smoker is an old organizing tradition — a working gathering where a community decides, together, what it will fight for next. Ours has three steps.
